Kingston Detox & Private Treatment Programs

Many families face the world of addiction every day because a loved one is addicted to mind-altering substances. Looking for a Kingston detox can be laborious, especially when the person needs immediate and supervised help. Throughout the country, most local hospitals will have a few beds reserved for this purpose.

Once done with the withdrawal or detox portion, one needs to search for a Kingston rehab. Like any other public service, public addiction services have a waiting time. However, with determination, a person can get admission to a treatment program. Unfortunately, Kingston has no residential rehab, but it offers an intensive day program.

We also recommend that families consider another option: the private sector. For more immediate help, a pay-for-facility has a fast admission time. If you would like to look into this option, call our referral counsellor.

The city offers a wide range of community rehabilitation and treatment services. For detox in Kingston, Hotel Dieu Hospital provides a three —to five-day stay with access to self-help groups. You should call beforehand, and admission is subject to bed availability. This service is for people at least 16 years of age.

Private withdrawal management and medical detox services are available in Ontario. Most privately owned rehab centers include these steps in their services. See the link at the bottom of the page for public access services.

Community Rehab Centre Services

Kingston isn’t different from any other city regarding community services. Substance abuse has become an important social issue that requires large-scale solutions. Every major city struggles with its communities’ service demands.

Unfortunately, bed availability became the norm, and the wait time progressively got longer over the decades. However, substance abuse cannot always hold off. It will undoubtedly get worse as time goes by.

Usually, a drug-addicted person will need immediate assistance. Those with milder dependency can probably wait and persevere, but most cannot.

Kingston Drug Addiction – Opioid Crisis

In the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington area, there were 20 opioid-related deaths and at least 109 opioid-related emergency department visits in 2020.

Opioids are depressant drugs usually prescribed to relieve pain. They are sometimes used to manage a dependency. Morphine, codeine, oxycodone, Percocet, hydromorphone (known as Dilaudid), and heroin are common opioids. Fentanyl, the drug responsible for most opioid-related deaths, is in the opioid family but is 100 times more potent than morphine.

All underlying causes of addiction are as varied as there are people addicted. The truth is, a person with substance abuse problems was not born with the condition unless the mother was a user. Major or minor trauma can cause a person to use. Sometimes, it can be out of boredom. The individual doesn’t want to feel a certain way, and drugs or alcohol numbs that feeling. Some felt emotional or physical pain, with no means to deal with it other than consuming substances. But taking more drugs makes the body and mind dependent on them, which results in addiction.
